Suspected Rival Cultists Open Fire On Police During Supremacy Clash In Abeokuta

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested seven suspected secret cult members who engaged each other in a supremacy gun battle in Abeokuta metropolis, the state capital.

The suspected cultists, who were said to be members of the dreaded Eiye and Aiye Confraternity, were also said to have engaged the police operatives in a gun duel when the law enforcing agents swooped on them at the venue of their nefarious activities within the metropolis.

A statement issued Tuesday afternoon by the command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi indicated that the suspected cultists were rounded up while in action at the Ijaye axis of the metropolis on Tuesday.

Oyeyemi gave identities of the suspects to include: Kazeem Ogundairo, who was popularly called "NEPA", Nasiru Idris, also known as "Aloma", Ayo Joshua, with an alias of "Terry G", Damilare Shogbamu a.k.a "Dhray", Bisiriyu Ibrahim Owoyele, Labulo Jamiu a.k.a "jay boy" and Olaitan Taiwo.

Ogun PPRO explained that the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the police from residents of Ijaye area indicating that the cultists were running riot in the area.

"Upon the distress call, the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, directed the special squad led by ACP Bolanle Muritala to move to the scene and bring the situation under control".

"On sighting the policemen, some of the hoodlums ran to different direction, while some engaged the policemen with dangerous weapons".

"At the end of the encounter, the squad succeeded in arresting six amongst the hoodlums, while others escaped. 
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police CP Lanre Bankole has ordered a continuous operation "clamp down" on all known cultists in the state in order to put an end to their nefarious activities across the state".
