Ilaro, headquarters of Yewa South Local Government Area on Saturday, agog as the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle bestowed the chieftaincy title of Aremo Yewaland on the Senator representing Lagos West at the National Assembly, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.
The title, jointly approved by the Yewa-Awori Traditional Council was in recognition of Adeola's contribution to the development and progress of the zone o er the years.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the installation, dismissed the speculations that conferment of Aremo of Yewaland on him was a ploy to boost his senatorial ambition for the year 2023 electioneering period.
The federal lawmaker emphatically declared that conferment of the chieftaincy title was in appreciation of the good works and services he has over the years, being rendering to the Yewa-Awori people of Ogun West notwithstanding that he was elected and still serving as a Lagos Senator.
The federal lawmaker, who recently swapped his constituency from Lagos West to Ward 01 in Ilaro, Ogun West Senatorial district, was on Saturday, installed as the first Aremo Yewaland by the Olu Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
Adeola is however, is seeking to represent Ogun West senatorial district on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in year 2023.
But speaking with journalists shortly after the conferment of the title, which drew the attendance of creame dé la creame in the Nigerian political space, Adeola explained that he had been involved in facilitating developments, which have direct impacts on the people of the area prior to his decision to return home to Ogun West Senatorial district and as such, highly familiar with the people's needs.
"To a large extent, I strongly believe that this chieftaincy title was not politically motivated, I just believe it is in appreciation and the belief in me by my people that I can do everything that is humanly possible to contribute my quota to the development of the land. So, when it comes to politics, I believe it is a different ball game and different terrain".
"The direct implication is that what we have been doing to the people of Yewaland, we should continue to do it and do more. And I believe the title, Aremo of Yewaland which simply means the first born of the Kabiyesi of Yewaland, is a very big title. I will do everything to meet the expectations that is expect of me and my wife".
"It was least expected, because prior to now, when I made my initial approach to come back home, it was faced with a lot of challenges from my people. Now if my people turn around and appreciate me to the extent of putting money together to purchase my nomination form for me, I believe it's a big deal".
"My legislative experience and exposure is not in doubt, it will be a work in progress. I will start from where I stopped. I can assure you, I know where the shoe pinches and I know the needs of my people and I know how to address it accordingly through the legislative means. I'll continue to work hard through every legislation that can bring about development to the entire Yewaland and Awori as a whole if eventually I get their nod to represent them".
Eminent personalities that graced the event included the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mr. Femi Hamzat, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, 2019 SDP governorship candidate in Ogun state, Otunba Rotimi Paseda, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Michael Adewale Ajayi, the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabure Bakare among others.
